Hoy tuve la oportunidad de conocer al diseñador de zapatos, Manolo Blahnik durante la celebración de la entrega de un título de "Honoris causa" de la facultad de Humanidades de La Universidad de La Laguna de Tenerife. Además de esto aprovechó para hablar de su trabajo y su paso por el diseño de moda en los últimos años.

Today I've has the oportunity to meet Manolo Blahnik fashion designer, because he came to my university (Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife) for receive a design honorary degree and he took advantage of this for talk about his work and path through the fashion design.
En la conferencia, Blahnik nos contaba su historia, inspiración y como percibe él el mundo del famoseo y la moda. Él piensa que las cosas deberian hacerse de mejor forma, por ejemplo, se mostraba sorpendido de lo mediatizado que resulta todo últimamente, piensa que es demasiado y que hoy en día ya no hay dos o tres personas influyentes, ahora puede ser cualquiera y eso le resta calidad a todo. Manolo aún cree en el trabajo artesanal y personalizado, utilizando materiales naturales y aprovechaba para darnos el mensaje de que tenemos que creer en lo que hacemos, a lo que nos dedicamos y que hay que luchar por sacar adelante nuestro trabajo, sobretodo si está dentro del difícil mundo de la moda donde hoy en día es complicado destacar. Sus mayores inspiraciones son la naturaleza y en especial la forma que tienen las hojas de los árboles. Decía así que, él siempre intentaba traducir a sus diseños las figuras que observa en el mundo real y el día a día. Además de esto también habló de sus últimos trabajos, como su colaboración con Rihanna y lo mucho que le gustaba colaborar con ella, diciendo que es una gran mujer. Finalmente también adelantó algunos detalles de la nueva colección en la que está trabajando actualmente.
Básicamente esto era la esencia de su conferencia, y sinceramente lo noté como una persona cercana y muy educada, además de estar completamente al día y bien ubicado en el mundo de la moda.
Como anécdota les cuento que mi amiga Leire (Lele GA design) y yo tuvimos la experiencia de hablar directamente con él ya que en el momento final de la conferencia, no pudo resistirse a hacernos la pregunta desde su silla, de si éramos chinas, y esto se debía a que previamente había hablado muy mal de las imitaciones de plástico que hace la industria china de sus zapatos. Como Leire y yo estabamos sentadas en la primera fila y hacíamos muchas fotos cual turistas chinos o por alguna razón nos vió como un estilismo asiático decía,, tenía que preguntar por si acaso de forma divertida. La situación nos hizo mucha gracia y gracias a esto, cuando la prensa subió al escenario para hacer fotos, nos permitió subir también y hacer algunos retratos suyos mientras era entrevistado para mi blog que les mostraré a continuación.

In the meeting, he tell us his story, inspirations and how he perceive the famous world. He think things should be done in a better way, for example, he was surprised about how the mass media reacts to an event or thing, all is so massive and that fact detracts originally and exclusiveness to people work, even if you're not a famous personallity. He belives in the artesanal work, using natural materials, he send us the message of we have to fight for our dreams and belive in our work, saying that that is the way to spotlight in the complicated world of the fashion design. His inspirations are always taken from the nature, specially the shape of the leafs and he tries to translate the shapes he see in the world to his designs. Also he talk about his last collaboration with Rihanna, saying that he loves work with her and he think she is an awesome woman. Finally he said some details about his new collection that he's working on!
Basically it was the essence of his words for the meeting, and I've saw him as a very close and educated person. I think he is right to all he said today, and I find him a very inspiring person to be honest.
Also anecdotally, he talked directly to me and my friend Leire (Lele GA design) from the stage asking us if we were chinese because during the meeting he talked so bad about the chinese Manolo's heels replica and he was afraid of this comment in the way he saw us some chinese stlye or because we were taking a lot of pictures with our cameras (like the chinese tourist haha) and he has to asked for in a funny way. Also during the final part when the press went up to the stage for ask him some questions, he let us to go up also and talk with him and take some nice pictures closer than the seats we had for the blog. I feel so glad of this fact and I'm so happy about he let me take this nice pictures I'll show you bellow.
Algunos asistentes que pudieron acercarse también se les veía muy entusiasmados, tanto que hasta habían mujeres pidiendo que les firmasen su par de Manolos o en otros casos, libros. Blahnik no tuvo mucho tiempo para dedicarse a hacerse fotos con sus seguidores ya que tenía que coger un avión apenas terminase el acto, pero al menos yo me siento feliz de haber tenido esa experiencia tan cercana y haber podido hablar cara a cara con él.
Además voy a enseñarles que llevaba puesto para esta ocasión especial. Elegí usar un total black outfit combinando una blusa de cuello negra y blanca de la nueva colección de Zara, unos vaqueros negros de tiro alto y mis chunky boots favoritas de Primark. Todo esto junto a un abrigo de lana largo que compré hace unos años en Francia, y que por cuestiones de clima no lo había usado demasiado.

People become crazy a lot asking him for sign a pair of Manolo's heels and books. He hasn't so many time for taking pictures with the fans, because he has to take a flight but I felt happy about having the chance to meet and talk to him face to face.
Also I'm going to show you what I wore for this special ocation, I've choose a total black outfit wearing a white neck and black blouse from the new collection of Zara, black high waisted jeans and chunky boots from primark combined with a long coat that I bought on France some years ago and I haven't use so many times. It was a simple, formal and comfy outfit for this time.
